History of The Shovelhead Motor
The shovelhead engine replaced the earlier panhead, and produced about 10% more horsepower. Like the motors that came before it, the shovelhead gets its name from the distinct look of the rocker boxes - in the this case, they look like an upside-down coal shovel. The Harley shovel was available in two sizes:
- 74" / 1200cc: 1966-1984
- 80" / 1345cc: 1966-1984
